About Multi-Pad

Multi-Pad is a Windows note organizer that keeps text notes in movable pads, grouped into workspaces. A single .mpad document can contain several workspaces, with each pad retaining its title, color, position, and size.

Multi-Pad also includes search, workspace sharing and importing, templates, automatic backups, crash recovery, and Recently Deleted tools to help organize notes and protect your work.

Getting Started

  1. Click Add Pad and type your first note.
  2. Use the pad's three-dot menu to give it a useful title.
  3. Use the + beside the workspace tabs to add another workspace.
  4. Choose File → Save, select a folder, and name your document.
Save a new document manually at least once before relying on autosave.

Workspaces, Pads, and Search

Workspaces group related pads inside the same document. Pads can be moved, resized, renamed, duplicated, recolored, deleted, and moved between workspaces. Workspace tabs can also be renamed, reordered, duplicated, exported, locked, or deleted.

Use the Find box to search the current pad, current workspace, or all workspaces. Search checks both pad titles and note text.

Saving, Backups, and Recovery

Sharing Workspaces

Use File → Export Workspace or the workspace tab's right-click menu to save one workspace as a separate .mpad file. Another Multi-Pad user can open that file directly or use File → Import Workspace to add it to an existing document.

To share the entire document, share the saved .mpad file. Review Recently Deleted first, because deleted pads remain in the full document until permanently removed.

Workspace Templates

A workspace can be saved as a reusable template, including its starting notes, titles, colors, positions, sizes, and layout-lock setting. Templates are stored locally on the computer and can be used to create new independent workspaces.

Common Troubleshooting

I cannot move or resize a pad.
Check whether Lock layout is enabled for the current workspace.

Search finds nothing.
Check the search scope and spelling. Current Pad requires a pad to be selected first; try All Workspaces when appropriate.

My changes are not saving.
Save an untitled document first. If the footer reports a failure, review its details, check the document and backup locations, and retry Save or use Save As.

I cannot find a document or note.
Use Open or Recent Files for documents, Workspace List for a workspace, Find for a pad, Recently Deleted for removed pads, and Restore from Backup for earlier saved copies.
